Rules for Submitting Music to Harris Radio
Want your music played on
Harris Radio? Well, you need to play by the rules ...
Rule #1 is that I only play music
that I like. If you want to submit your music to Harris Radio,
please listen in first, or at least consult the
playlist. If you sound like any of the music I've been
playing, there is a good chance that I'll play yours.
Rule #2 is not to ask me to check out your website or MySpace page to determine if you're a good fit. You need to figure that out for yourself. Even if you send me a lovely kiss-ass MySpace email, bribe me or promise me love, I ain't gonna listen to your music. I just don't have the time!
Rule #3 is that I generally don't play live CDs. They usually have inter-song banter and I need to edit that out to fit my random format, and I don't have time to do that.
Rule #4 is that I generally don't accept demos, or pre-release promo-only CDs, or multi-artist compilations. Send me the complete, final thing, just as you plan to sell it. If you don't have that, wait until you do.
Rule #5 is just send me your latest CD, and it should have been released in the past 12 months.
Rule #6 is that I only take submissions on CD. I don't download MP3s as there are usually technical issues with them and I just don't have the time to fix them.
Rule #7 is to send me the complete CD and package as you plan to sell it (and yes, it helps if you remove the shrink wrap). If you can, upload track information to CDDB (which you do via programs like RealPlayer, iTunes, etc. - it's the service that allows those programs to pull down the track listing via the Internet when you play a CD on your PC). And tell me if the CD is being sold via CD Baby.
Rule #8 is to just send me the CD and a one-pager, with your website and contact information. Complete press kits aren't required. Nor are giveaways, unless it's a Ferrari. To me, they are throwaways (again, unless it's a Ferrari). If the CD is not on CDDB, make sure the track listing is on the CD package or support material so I can manually enter track names more easily.
If, after all of this, you think you would fit in, please send a CD to:

What happens next?
Rule #9 is to be patient. I receive a lot of CDs every month. I receive more than I can play - sorry! I generally add about 15 CDs each month to the playlist, and I like to add a balanced mix of music, so sometimes that means it takes a while to add music so the balance is maintained. Sometimes it's just not possible. Feel free to contact me to ask if a CD has been received. But beyond that, please don't ask if I have listened to the CD and have scheduled it for airplay. If your CD does make the playlist, I will email you. If it does not, I won't. Again, sorry!
If your music is accepted for airplay on Harris Radio, it will be added to the "New to Harris Radio" show for that month, which broadcasts twice every day. Information is included in a monthly email and on the home page of this website. I link to your website, and to your CD Baby page if you have one. Your website is also listed on this website forever in the playlist page.
After the first month, your music will be moved to the overnight rotation for at least three months (often much longer). It may also be played as part of "GigApple's Live in NYC" program (add your NYC gigs to GigApple.com well in advance to start the ball rolling), which also airs twice a day.
Rule #10 is to tell your fans if your music has been added to the playlist. Please include this information on your website and in email blasts, etc. You can even add a Harris Radio banner to your site. Find them on the About page. Thanks for doing that! Feel free to have your fans contact me to request your songs.
